Roots Will Remain
A short, experimental time-lapse film, Dir. by Garath Whyte (2022).
Words from the director below:
“Inspired by the events which are tragically still ongoing in Ukraine, this film tells the story of a determined sunflower making its journey toward the light. The theme of the film comes from the idea that nature always finds a way, it fights back and will remain here forever. To me this perfectly characterised the strength, determination and resilience of the Ukrainian people. The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine, which has become a symbol of the nation’s resistance against the invasion of Russian forces. The film has been a labour of love, shot over the past 6 months using a bespoke Time-lapse camera controller called ‘Timeghost’ which I am Beta testing at the studio. It’s been a great challenge, creatively and technically, I am super happy with the results. More to come next year!”
